Bideford Music Day is an event held in Bideford Town Centre (in Victoria Park). The event is an opportunity for individuals and groups to experience live music. The event also gives budding musicians the opportunity to perform on a stage with a full PA to a live audience - for many participants this is the first time they have performed in front of an audience on this scale.
The RainBo Music Trust fundraises to put on as many Music Workshops within the event as possible. These are free for participants - everyone is welcome to take part in these workshops, they are fully inclusive for all ages and abilities.
We are extremely lucky to team with local groups, charities and businesses to bring various stages and opportunities to visitors. Space (Bideford Youth Club) host an awesome stage where the young people they work with, and visitors to the event, can perform or try their hand at an instrument, we allocate time slots on the Main Stage so that groups / individuals who perform on the Bideford Music Day Youth Stage throughout the day can perform on the Main Stage, too.
The Palladium host a stage within the event - enabling more local performers to be allocated a slot to perform.
Founded in 2015, and becoming a Registered Charity in 2017, Rainbo Music Trust has been committed to making a difference in the lives of people in our community for over 10 years. The event we produce has grown and evolved over the years, the paperwork and cost of producing the event has significantly increased but our dedication and determination to meeting the events aims have never wavered.
We are always in need of support to help produce the event. We need support before the event to secure funding and raise money towards the costs of the event. The event costs rise every year - the event last year cost around £10,000 to produce. This event is produced by the charity - it is put on by volunteers who donate their time to the event, it is purely a charitable event with all planning, organisation and production being done for no remuneration.
Bideford Music Day is not a council run event as many people seem to believe. Torridge District Council provide us with a Licence to use their land, in return for a large amount of paperwork, risk assessments, insurances, management plans etc that are required for the event to run smoothly and safely; Bideford Town Council give us a Grant each year towards the event - the allocated amount for 2025 is £500 - which is, unfortunately, 75% lower than previous years, meaning we are working hard behind the scenes to secure more funding, it's a sign of the times as councils have less money to allocate to local causes in the current financial climate.
The donations collected on the gate are an essential part of the events funding - we do not want to charge a set price per entry as we do not want anyone who cannot afford to pay to miss out on the event, that runs against the ethos of the event, but the reality is, the event costs are too high for us to not ask for donations to help with the costs. The suggested Donation is £5 per person - which gives you a full day of live music over numerous stages - but any donation helps! We extend the hugest of THANK YOUs to everyone that has donated and supported the event - WE COULD NOT DO IT WITHOUT YOU!
We also have regular support from Bideford Bridge Trust, Evans Transport and Tarka Scaffolding - MASSIVE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Please see the page listing our Sponsors and Supporters for more details. If you are a local business and would like to get involved please get in touch.
Prior to the event we need help in advertising and promoting the event - putting out banners, posters, Facebook shares, creating content.
We need help on the day to ensure the event runs smoothly - our team of volunteers is small and they work extremely hard - any help that you could provide on the day of the events would be invaluable - teams spend time giving out information, directing people, collecting donations, talking about the charities work, litter picking, carrying out health and safety checks, helping backstage etc. Please get in touch if you'd like to join the team.
We are constantly working to expand our offerings and ensure that we are meeting the changing needs of our community, if you have any ideas or suggestions for how we can improve and expand what we offer we would love to hear from you.
